Three Lake County Early Education Programs Awarded Capacity Building Grants

Congratulations to our latest capacity building grant winners! Three Lake County programs received grants to add new high-quality seats.

As a part of our ongoing mission to expand access to high-quality early care and education programs throughout the state, we’re excited to award a total of $176,500 to support the creation of 128 new, permanent early learning seats.

The grant recipients and anticipated impact are:

  • Good Shepherd Daycare, Merrillville, $50,000, 59 new seats
  • Growing Hearts Childcare, Hobart, $55,000, 34 new seats
  • Life Church International, Gary, $71,500, 35 new seats

Since 2015, we have awarded 21 different capacity building grants, totaling more than $1 million and creating more than 1,000 new high-quality seats across the state. According to Indiana’s Early Learning Advisory Committee there are 504,906 Hoosiers children under the age of 5, yet only 42,299 are in high-quality early learning programs.

“High-quality early learning experiences, like these programs provide, make huge differences in the lives of children who are lucky enough to attend,” said Julie Goldsberry, Early Learning Indiana’s Acting President and CEO. “That’s why are are so pleased to help create new opportunities for even more Lake County youngsters to benefit from early education.”
